7. Visit Agia Galini (Holy Peace). A small, labyrinthine village built in the shape of an amphitheatre and surrounded by three mountains: Asideroto, Kedros and Psiloritis. It opens out into a pretty, picturesque harbour. What makes Agia Galini unique is the amphitheatrical layout of its houses on the hill, offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the Bay of Messara. The view of the village from the harbour is equally lovely, especially at dusk and at night.
8. Visit Plakias. The beach of Plakias extends east from the village. It is one of the biggest beaches in Crete, offering a sense of space and comfort to suit every taste – the east end is mainly used by naturists. There are other lovely beaches near Plakias at Damnoni, Ammoudi and mikro Ammoudi, which is also a naturists’ beach. A little further away are Lefkogia and Schinaria, the preferred beach of scuba divers.
9. Visit the old town of Rethymnon. The old town of Rethymnon is one of the best-preserved towns of the Renaissance. Lying in the heart of modern Rethymnon, it combines the oriental features of the Turkish period with Renaissance-style Venetian architecture.
10. Visit Fortezza, the Venetian fortress in Rethymnon,almost in the centre of the old town. The giant Fortezza, with its hidden centuries of history, is visible from every corner of the town and offers panoramic views of Rethymnon and the coast to the west.
11. Visit the Carnival in Rethymnon which has a history of almost one century. The first elements of humorous performances date back to 1915.On Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee, The start of Carnival is announced, the Town Hall is lit up, hundreds of fireworks burst over the town, confetti, balloons, music.
12. Visit Triopetra beach (meaning three stones). The beach consists of two parts. The smaller part on the Agios Pavlos side (east) has sun beds and a tavern. On the other side, the beach extends more than 1 kilometre. It is one of the best beaches in the area.

HERAKLION

1. Visit Heraklion city. From the old Venetian Harbour, the August 25th Str., leads to the old town’s centre. The central square while surrounded by cafes, stores and restaurants, is dominated by the fountain of the Lions, built by Morozini the Venetian governor in 1628. The Town Hall is today housed in the Venetian Loggia, a building from the same era and next to it, the plateau and the cathedral of Agios Titos an exceptional monument from the Byzantine era. Walk following the Venetian walls that meet at the old port and “Koules”, the fortress that dominates the old harbour of the city.
2. Visit Knossos Palace. The ruins of the Minoan Civilization.
3. Appreciate Crete’s history in the renovated Heraklion Archaeological Museum.
4. Visit Historical museum of Heraklion. The history and culture of Crete, from the first centuries of the Christian era to our present time.
5. Visit The Natural History Museum of Crete. With an area of 3,500 m², it is the largest exhibition of its kind in the Mediterranean, showcasing the natural environment of Crete and the wider Mediterranean area in an innovative, original way.
