Description
Samaria Gorge is one of the most famous Cretan Gorges. It is located in the vast mountain range of the White Mountains in the southwest of Chania. At 16 km. long, it is the longest gorge in Crete as well as all of Europe. The Samaria Gorge became a national park in 1962 due to the large variety of flowers and plants unique to the area, as well as different species of birds and wildlife which are all protected under international law.
